CGB-EBI. James Madison Maltby, b. Dec. 22, 1808, Oneida Co., N.Y. (Tim.5, Sam.4, Sam.3, Sam.2, Wm.1). One authority gives: "m. at Richland, N.Y." Another states: "m. at Oswego, N.Y.," Sarah Mea- cham, b. at Pawlet, Vt. She was living at Beloit, Wis., in 1864. They resided at Richland, N.Y., on Maltby farm. The records received do not check. One says "After his death she removed to Wisconsin, taking her two sons with her. Settled on a farm near Beloit. d. prior to her two sons." Another writes "She d. 1866 in Beloit. He m. (2) in 1868, Mary J. Lambert. No children.

The following sent me, evidently refers to his parents. "Monuments at Sauquoit, N.Y." "Deacon John B. Stedman d. Mar. 29, 1853, aged 85 years." "Hannah Steadman d. April 7, 1840, aged 67 years."

(1) Lucinda Stedman, b. 1808; d. 1868 ae. 60- 5-11. He m. (2) March 23, 1869, Phebe White, dau. of Roderick and Lucy (Blakeslee) White, b. in Kirtland, N.Y., July "1, 1836:" (This must be an error in copying). She was educated at Cazenovia Seminary and was a teacher until her m. Mar. 23, 1869."

Note. This all pertains, clearly, to a second wife. From Monuments at Sauquoit, N.Y., we learn that the 1st wife of Isaac Morris Maltby was Lucinda: "Lucinda S., wife of I.M. Maltby (Lucinda Steadman) d. April 6, 1868, aged 60 5 months and 11 days. I. M. Maltby 1807-91." (hence she was born in 1808).
